The next Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup will be on Saturday, May 30 in a portion of the East Hill neighborhood (please see cleanup area map). This event allows City of Pensacola Sanitation customers in the cleanup area to leave eligible items at the curb for pickup. City of Pensacola Sanitation Services will pick up the items free of charge.

Governor DeSantis Visits Pensacola International Airport to Announce $4.8 Million Grant
The City of Pensacola was honored to have Gov. Ron DeSantis in Pensacola Wednesday to announce his office awarding $4.8 million to the Pensacola International Airport through the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund for infrastructure enhancements at the airport.

The funding will assist with infrastructure such as taxiways and ramps so the airport can support additional maintenance, repair and overhaul, or MRO, facilities and other development to continue to grow economic opportunity in Pensacola.

“What we are doing here for workforce development, that is what’s going to transform Florida, that’s what’s going to transform the economic opportunity for our citizens…,” Mayor Grover Robinson said during the announcement at Pensacola International Airport. “We’re excited about that economic opportunity and the workforce development that will happen.”

Survey Sees 56% Increase in Resident Participation from 2019

The City of Pensacola has received results from the 2020 Resident Satisfaction Survey, highlighting areas of success with city services and the city's image, along with identifying opportunities for improvement. A total of 1,259 residents completed the online survey, which was a 56% increase from the number of survey completions in 2019.

To our communities of color in Pensacola and the hundreds of allies who have spent countless hours this week protesting and calling for justice and equality: I see you. I hear you. I value and respect you.

As your mayor, I am committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and safe community for all. There is no place for racism or discrimination in the City of Pensacola. We are incredibly fortunate to have a police department that is committed to the same values.

The 2020 Census is underway, with more than 88 million households responding to date. As of Monday, May 18, the City of Pensacola's self-response rate is 61.6%, and Escambia County’s self-response rate is 58.1%. Escambia County and the City of Pensacola are encouraging all residents to complete the 2020 Census to ensure everyone in the community is accurately counted.

Construction of the Bayou Boulevard, Perry, Blount, and Avery Outfalls at Bayou Texar Stormwater Treatment Enhancement Project will begin Tuesday, May 5. The goal of this project is to provide underground stormwater treatment units for three sub-basins that currently discharge untreated stormwater runoff into Bayou Texar.

Meal Pickups for Youth Offered at City Community Centers Beginning March 23

The City of Pensacola is partnering with Feeding the Gulf Coast to offer grab-and-go meals for youth ages 18 and under at several city community centers starting Monday, March 23. 

The meals will include lunch and a snack, and they will be available on a first come, first served basis. Breakfast items will be offered starting Monday, March 30.

Meals will be available for pickup only at the locations listed below Monday-Friday from  10 a.m. to noon.:
Cobb Resource Center, 601 E. Mallory St.
Fricker Community Center, 900 N. F. St.
Gull Point Resource Center, 7000 Spanish Trail
Woodland Heights Resource Center, 111 Berkley Drive

Important Notice Regarding Use of City of Pensacola Parks and Playgrounds

Parks managed by the City of Pensacola remain open to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, but park visitors should not use playground equipment, park benches, and other shared public surfaces.  The COVID-19 virus has been shown to survive on surfaces up to several days according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and  the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department is not disinfecting these frequently touched surfaces.

As recreation and physical activity are essential for optimal health, the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department encourages families to continue enjoying open spaces at any of the city's 93 parks. Park visitors should bring their own equipment such as a ball or Frisbee, and CDC guidelines should be followed to help stop the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing.

In order to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for City Hall employees, all walk-in permitting has been suspended effective tomorrow, Wednesday, March 18, until further notice. Business will still be conducted as usual using online accounts through mygovernmentonline.org and submitting permits electronically.

American Magic Send-off Celebration Set for March 16

The community is invited to join the City of Pensacola, Port of Pensacola and Pensacola Yacht Club for a send-off celebration for American Magic as the sailing team prepares to leave Pensacola and continue training for the 2021 America's Cup. The event will be held on Monday, March 16 from 5-7 p.m. at the Fish House, 600 S. Barracks St.

This free, family-friendly event will give the public an opportunity to meet members of the New York Yacht Club American Magic sailing team, take photos and get autographs from the team. Mayor Grover Robinson will also present a proclamation at the event.

American Magic returned to Port of Pensacola for a second consecutive winter training season. In 2018, American Magic became the first America’s Cup team to train on the Gulf Coast of Florida since 1970. The City of Pensacola's Public Works and Facilities Department has repaired approximately 16,000 linear feet of sidewalk and installed 215 curb ramps as part of the city's Americans with Disabilities Act Sidewalk Assessment. Approximately 12,000 additional linear feet of sidewalk is expected to be repairedby 2023, along with an additional 1,806 curb ramps.

The city completed an ADA Sidewalk Assessment in 2017to evaluate existing sidewalks for ADA deficiencies, identifyingapproximately 28,100 linear feet of sidewalks and another 2,021 new curb ramps needed in order to achieve an acceptable level of ADA compliance.

Section of 12th Avenue to Close March 3

A section of North 12th Avenue at East Fisher Street will close to through traffic beginning Tuesday, March 3 at 7 a.m. for sanitary sewer line replacement related to the 12th Avenue Stormwater Improvement Project.

The roadway is expected to reopen by Wednesday, March 4, weather permitting.

Access to businesses will be maintained throughout the closure. Detour signs will be posted in the work area.

Eleventh Circuit takes cue from Supreme Court, upholds
historic WWII-era Cross

A historic World War II-era cross in Pensacola, Florida will remain standing thanks to a victory at the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals today. In Kondrat’yev v. City of Pensacola, an atheist group sued the City of Pensacola to remove the monument, which has been standing since 1941. Following the Supreme Court’s decision in American Legion v. American Humanist Association, protecting a World War I memorial cross in Bladensburg, Maryland, the Eleventh Circuit ruled that the cross is constitutional, acknowledging that that it has become “embedded in the fabric of the Pensacola community” and that removing it could “strike many as aggressively hostile to religion.”
