Council OKs Resolution on Stormwater Fees
Pensacola News Journal USA TODAY NETWORK – FLORIDA
The Pensacola City Council passed a resolution Thursday that will allow the city to consider new stormwater fees next year.
The measure passed 4-2, with council members Andy Terhaar and P.C. Wu voting against it.
Wu said he was opposed because he knows there are people in his district ‘barely getting by’ and he didn’t want to impose a new fee.
The city currently collects a stormwater fee on residents’ tax bills based on the amount of impervious surface on their property.
Under the resolution, the City Council could pass a new fee for specific drainage basins to pay for new stormwater and flood control projects.
City officials are expected to present a plan next year with projects likely targeted in the Scenic Heights area and west side of downtown Pensacola.
